He joined the British Army in 1973 serving with the Green Howards Infantry Regiment in the early years of the Northern Ireland Campaign and later in Berlin. He graduated as an Army Helicopter Pilot in 1979 and transferred to the Air Corps 3 years later. He served in West Germany, The Falkland Islands, Canada, Kenya and of course N Ireland. Having commanded 657 Special Operations Squadron, he was promoted to Lt Col and commanded as the CO of 5 Regiment AAC in Ireland and Commander Aviation during the busy period preceding the ceasefire. He was awarded the OBE for operational service. Following a 3 year attachment to the US Army Aviation centre he returned to UK to command the Attack Helicopter fielding Team (for Apache) and was promoted to Col. He then served 3 years in MOD London to oversee the introduction of Apache and other key equipment as the DDEC Air Manoeuvre.

David joined BAE Systems in 2003 as the Head of Helicopter Operational Capability. Eighteen months later BAE Systems avionics was absorbed by Fimeccanica as Selex-SAS. Working initially with the EW sector, he was made responsible as Vice President, for marketing EW equipment for Land systems, Naval EW and Rotary aviation. He joined the Selex-ES Corporate Marketing Team in 2010 with a wide portfolio looking at new business. He was appointed VP Middle East in 2012 covering an impressive product and service portfolio across the Gulf States.

David has now left Selex-ES and is now engaged with his own Consultancy Company. Given his background he is ideally placed to see both sides of the fence, from the military capability requirement side and from the industrial supplier.
