Georgi Fidanov

Rear Admiral George Fidanov was born on June 23 1960 in the town of Turgovishte. In 1978, he graduated from high school in his hometown. He graduated from the NY Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna, specializing in naval navigation, in 1983. From 1991 to 1993 he was a student at the Admiral Kuznetsov Naval Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2004 he graduated from General Headquarters Naval War College course in Newport, Rhode Island, in the United States.

His professional career as an officer began in 1983 at the 10th Missile and Torpedo Boat Brigade in Sozopol. He subsequently undertook various duties, from naval gunnery commander to rocket commander to missile boat commander. In 1989 he became commander of the new missile corvette in the same unit. From 1993 to 1995 he was Chief of Staff of the 10th Division Light Forces, and from 1995 to 1997, Commander of the same naval division. From 1997 to 2002, he held the positions of Deputy Chief of Staff, headed the department operative combat training department at the headquarters of the 10th Brigade Light Force and was Chief of Staff of the brigade. From 2002 to 2007, he served at the headquarters at Bourgas Naval Base, in the posts of Chief of Staff, headed the Combat Readiness Department, was Deputy Commander of force readiness and Chief of Staff of the base.

In 2006, as a senior national representative aboard the frigate Durzki, he participated, respectively, in two missions in the Mediterranean - NATO's Operation Active Endeavour and in the naval contingent of the UN mission in Lebanon, UNIFIL. He has participated in numerous national and international naval and joint exercises.

From 2007 to 2009, he served at Navy Headquarters as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff for preparation, and from 2009 to 2012 as the Director of Strategic Planning in the Defence Staff, Ministry of Defence. He was granted the rank of Commodore in July 2009 and was granted the rank of Rear Admiral in May 2014.

He has been awarded the medals "For Meritorious Service under the Colours" Grades I and II, and "Mission Participation".

He has completed various specialization courses: at the US Coast Guard in Yorktown, Virginia, at the US Navy base in San Diego, California, at the Centre for Postgraduate Studies in Monterey, California and the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany. He has participated in numerous conferences, seminars and workshops at home and abroad.

By Decree of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, on April 3 he was appointed Military Security Adviser to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
